4 Days Private Trip to Dunhuang & Jiayuguan

This 4-day private Dunhuang - Jiayuguan tour will start the moment you touch down at the airport, where our guide will meet you. You will be transferred to the reserved hotel and following a short rest, we will commence the tour, starting with the desert to visit the Echoing-Sand Mountain and the Crescent Lake. As you climb the Echo-Sand Mountain, you can hear sand grains beating like drums at every step, and hence the name. In the north of the mountain, there is a fresh spring and since its shape resembles that of a new noon, it has been given the vivid name Crescent Lake.

After having fun in the desert, we will drive back to the hotel in Dunhuang. You can have dinner at a nearby restaurant by yourself and our guide is willing to give your some recommendations.

Today's private Dunhuang tour will begin with a visit to the Mogao Caves. After breakfast, our guide will pick you up at the hotel and then take you there directly. Mogao Caves is renowned as a treasure house of Buddhist arts, with the longest history and largest scale in China. Here, you can appreciate over 45,000 square meters (54,000 square yards) of deliberate murals and 2,415 colored clay statues of Buddha. After lunch, we will continue our journey to the Dunhuang Museum, where both historical relics unearthed around the city and precious items discovered at the Magao Caves are exhibited. You will then be transferred back to the hotel in Dunhuang.

After breakfast, we will take a 1.5~2 hours' private car ride to the Yulin Caves. The caves consist of 43 grottoes carved out over several periods: the Tang, Five Dynasties Period, Song, Western Xia and Yuan dynasties (618 - 1368). The highlight of the Yulin Caves however are the 42,000 square meters (50,000 square yards) of frescos, portraying images of Buddha and Bodhisattva, Buddhist stories and both floral and animal patterns. 

Next, we drive on for 3.5 hours to Jiayuguan City and have lunch at a local restaurant. Then we will proceed to the Wei-Jin Art Gallery, which exhibits paintings on brick walls of an ancient tomb complex built over 1,500 years ago. 

When the visit is over, you will be escorted back to Jiayuguan to check into a hotel.

Jiayuguan Pass was once a vital military fort as well as a trading port along the Silk Road and has been standing on the desert for hundreds of years. This morning, you will stop by this frontier fortress and walk into its past history.

This 4-day Dunhuang - Jiayuguan tour package will finish after having lunch in Jiayuguan City. Our guide will escort you to the airport or train station and see you off.
