The nearest railway station is Kunming Railway Station. You take metro line 6 to Tangzixiang, transfer to line 2 to South Ring Road, then transfer to line 1 to Kunming Railway Station, taking 45 minutes. Or you can take airport shuttle bus line 2 to the train station, taking 70 minutes. Considering the distance, I advise you to book trains departing after 17:30. Usually the ticket checking starts about 20 minutes before the departure. As you are new there, it's advised to be there an hour before departure for security check and ticket check.
