Mount Emei, aka Mt. Emei or Emeishan Mountain, is located in Leshan City, Sichuan Province. It is towering, beautiful, old and mysterious. It is like a huge green screen standing in the southwest of the Chengdu Plain. Looking its winding and beautiful figure, you will find that Mount Emei resembles very much an eyebrow of a girl. It is the highest one among all the famous sight-seeing mountains in China.

On the mountain there are four scenic regions: Baoguo Temple, Wannian Temple, Qingyin Pavilion and Golden Summit. Its main peak, the Golden Summit, is 3079.3 meters (10,103 feet) above the sea level, seemingly reaching the sky. Standing on the top of it, you can enjoy the snowy mountains in the west and the vast plain in the east. In addition in Golden Summit there are four spectacles: clouds sea, sunrise, Buddha rays and saint lamps. In 1996 Mount Emei was enlisted in the world natural and cultural heritage by the UNESCO.

Emeishan Mountain is a wondrous world. The trees are verdant almost all the year round; the waterfalls are splendid; the whole scenery is beautiful and quiet. The landscape varies according to the seasons, the height and the climate. The poet Tan Zhongyue living in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) once concluded the beautiful landscape in Mount Emei into ten scenic sights. Today more and more new scenery has been discovered and given beautiful names such as Listen to the Spring beside the Tiger Brook, Plank Road above Longjiang River and Flying Waterfall Hanging over Dragon Gate. Go there and use your imagination, maybe you will discover a new sight by yourself.

Emeishan History

Mount Emei has a long history. According to the archaeological material, people in remote ancient times have lived in this place. As early as 5,000 years ago, the Emperor Xuanyuan paid two visits here to learn Tao thoughts. 1,900 years ago, a practitioner built the first monastery here, thus marked the mountain the birthplace of Buddhism in Yangtze Valley. Today the Buddhist culture has become the main body of Emei Culture. The Buddhist architecture, music, grottos and paintings in the mountain all reflect rich religious flavor and culture.

Is one day enough to reach summit?
Hi,

We are planning to visit Emei with my family around the 7th of January, is it possible to make it to the golden summit within one day if we arrive Emeishan city around 11am? If we take the bus and cable car? Or do we have enough time to hike some of the way up? What time is the last bus driving back from Leidongping Station to Baoguo Temple?

Many thanks

If you hike for the whole way, the longest route about 40-50km, it may take 10-15 hours. You need to take the cable car or bus.
Recommended route saving time: tourist bus to Leidongping, hike for 30min to the cable car station, cable car up, get off the cableway and hike for ten minutes to the summit. Only in the way, you may make it within the day.

The last bus is at 16:00 in winter season and 17:00 in summer season.

Bus stop Baoguo Temple or Huangwan
I would like to take the first bus of the day. I have read that buses leave from the Baoguo Temple stop and also from Huangwan. I would like to book a hotel nearby. Which stop is better Baoguo Temple or Huangwan? I have also read that buses also leave at 6am in summer until the end of October. Is that correct?

Thank you very much for your answer.

Both the two are convenient to take buses but most tourists choose to stay near Baoguo temple. Yes, the bus operate from 06:00 - 17:00 from April to October and 07:00 - 16:00 from November to March.

Leshan Grand Buddha to Emeishan Baoguo Temple
Hello
I would like to go from Leshan Grand Buddha to Emeishan Baoguo Temple. The fastest but most expensive option is a taxi, which takes about 1 hour. I could not find a direct bus. Only bus 302 and then bus 602 or 601, but the bus takes more than 2 hours. And the train is not that much quicker as you first have to take the bus to Leshan Station and then the bus from Emeishan Station to Baoguo Temple, which also takes another 2 hours (including the time buffer at the station). Is there another cheap alternative?
Thank you very much for your answer.

I see that taxis + bullet train is the fastest option.
Or you may share a taxi with other travelers, which is fast and at the same time cost-effective.

Where do I buy advanced tickets for Emei San Sightseeing Bus?
Hi,

Where do I buy advanced tickets for Emei San Sightseeing Bus from Bao Guo Temple to the summit? Is there taxi (Didi) that can takes us up the Summit instead? What is the bus difference between the bus and taxi? I am looking at taking a sigh seeing bus from Baoguo Temple Passenger Transportation Center early in the morning (I am staying near Baoguo temple) all the way up to Summit, and then hike down to Qingyin Pavilion, take the sight seeing bus from Wuxiangang Station back to Baoguo Temple Passenger Transportation Center by 4.30pm to catch the high speed railway from Emei San at 5.58pm. Is this hiking trail doable within the time allocated? Thank you.

No direct sightseeing bus from the temple to the summit. You need to take a sightseeing car from Baoguo Temple to Leidongping, then walk for 1.5km to Jieyindian to take Golden Summit cable way to the summit. No didi or taxi will take you up to the summit. It will take about about 1.5 hours.

And no sightseeing bus from Wuxianggang to Baoguo Temple. From Qingyin Pavilion to Baoguo Temple, it takes take about 2 hours 10 min by hiking and it may take 8-9 hours from the summit to Baoguo temple by hiking and you cannot finish a round trip in one day if not taking cable cars and sightseeing buses to go down. To ensure to catch the train, I advise you to hike down to Leidongping Temple, then take a sightseeing bus to Emeishan Railway Station directly.
