Besides Zhangjiajie Forest Park, Tianmen Mountain is another natural wonder that makes Zhangjiajie famous and is worth spending a day. Here some international extreme sports masters have carried out exciting challenges in recent years, such as motorcycle climbing up and down the Heavenly Stairway, and wingsuit flying through the Tianmen Cave, which have brought more attention and reputation to Tianmen Mountain. An afternoon excursion to the Tujia Customs Park will give you an idea of the folk culture of Zhangjiajie as a place inhabited by Chinese Tujia people.

Our guide will pick you up from your own-booked hotel in downtown Zhangjiajie and accompany you to the lower station of Tianmen Mountain Cable Car by taxi.

2 Things to Note:
1. Accommodation: You are recommended to book a hotel in the downtown area of Zhangjiajie, which is convenient. Hotels around the Dayong City are the best choices.
2. Time-wise Plan: Get up EARLY if you don't want a long line! The queue time of the cableway will be shorter if you get there before 8:00. If you're late, or during the peak season, the line can last more than an hour.

The Tianmen Mountain Cable Car is worth trying. It is the longest mountain passenger ropeway in the world, with a one-way travel time of 28 minutes, sending passengers from the lower station in downtown Zhangjiajie to the Air Garden on top of the Tianmen Mountain. Unlike some other tour operators that offer cheap single-trip cableway tickets, we have arranged in advance the worry-free round-trip cableway ticket package for you, which is the quickest and most efficient way to get around the scenic area. We will book the earliest cable car tickets for you.

► Our Classical Touring Route:
Tianmen Mountain Cable Car Lower Station → Cableway (30 minutes) → Mountain Top (2.5 hours for sightseeing) → 7-level downhill escalator → Tianmen Cave (1 hours for sightseeing) → Cableway to Mountain Gate → shuttle bus back to the Lower Station (20 minutes)

► Highlights on Mountain Top:
● Middle Route: Take the escalator from the upper station of the cable car up to Yunmeng Fairy Peak, and see the panorama of the mountain. Get back to the upper station of the cable car, and start to tour the west route.
● West Route: Lingxiao Platform → Glass Skywalk → Ghost Path → Qiu’er Cave → Tianmen Temple
● East Route: Tianmen Temple → Wood & Stone Romance → Nanfu Tianmen → Glass Skywalk → Yuhu Peak → Beifu Tianmen → Tianmen Fanshui. Here we can take the escalator down to the Tianmen Cave.
● Tip: If you like, you can pay CNY 25 to take the Forest Sightseeing Cable Car from the Yunmeng Fairy Peak to the Tianmen Temple.

► Highlights of Tianmen Cave (Heaven’s Door):
Tianmen Cave, located in the upper part of Tianmen Mountain, is the world's highest natural hole through the mountain, with an altitude of 1,300 meters (4,265 feet), just like a gateway to heaven. After appreciating the natural wonder, you can go down the 999-step Heavenly Stairway on foot in 30 minutes, or you can pay CNY 32 to take the escalator to reach the Tianmen Cave Square, where we will take the cable car to the exit at the Mountain Gate.

There is a snack street outside the Tianmen Temple on the mountain top, where you can have lunch. Tianmen Cave Square also has some food stalls. Or you can prepare some take-away food for lunch to save time.

Follow our guide to take the shuttle bus back to the lower station of the Tianmen Mountain Cable Car, and then we will take a taxi to the next stop, Tujia Customs Park, in 10 minutes.

Zhangjiajie is a major dwelling place of Tujia people. This scenic area is based on an ancient Tujia mountain village, where the Tujia supreme leader, King Tusi, lived. It is a holy place for Tujia people to worship and celebrate.

Getting out of the Tujia Customs Park, our guide will accompany you on a 10 to 15 minutes’ taxi ride to the Dayong City in the heart of Zhangjiajie. Dayong City is built on the 600-year-old office site of Zhangjiajie, showing thousands years of local history and the multi-ethnic cultural heritage of Tujia, Bai, Miao, Yao, and Dong peoples. There are many great local restaurants, hotels, bars, and boutiques, making it a good place to stay.

After a walk around the neighborhood, our guide will say goodbye to you. You can have dinner here, and then take a taxi or walk back to your hotel depending on the distance.

Tianmen Fox Fairy Show at the foot of the Tianmen Mountain is worth seeing. Most hotels in downtown Zhangjiajie offers tickets and transfer service to the theater.
