What to Expect
Yu Garden is a famous ancient private garden that was built in Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) with a history of more than 450 years. It was built by an officer for his old father to spend the old age. Thus you can hear the conception of filial piety is repeatedly mentioned there.

Book the tickets and you will be addicted to the beautiful scenery. The pavilions are scattered, the rockeries are grotesque, the trees are green and the lake is clear. It is like a small forest in city.

I'm a native Shanghainese and haven't been there since I was a little girl. Totally worthwhile. There is Zhuozhen Garden in Suzhou, but Yu Garden is right here in Shanghai. Go there and forget about your troules and stress. Enjoy the greenery and delicate architecture. It's a mustsee in Shanghai.
